about

Clementine is an American traditional folk ballad usually credited to Percy Montrose (1884.) but has been apart of American folk music and culture before then. It is a ballad about a lover loosing his darling during the California gold rush.

lyrics

Oh my darlin
Oh my darlin
Oh my darlin Clementine
You are lost and gone forever
dreadful sorry Clementine

Light she was
just like a fairy
red her hair did shine
ruby lips I loved a kissin
Clementine oh she was mine

In a churchyard
near the canyon
where the myrtle doth intwine
there grow roses
and daisys
fertilized by clementine

Oh my darlin
Oh my darlin
Oh my darlin Clementine
You are lost and gone forever
dreadful sorry Clementine
